Baby thrown from car after crash in Botany
A suspended driver has been charged after a serious crash in Botany last evening.
Emergency services were called to Stephen Road, Botany just 7.10pm after reports of a crash near the intersection of Swinbourne Street.
Police have been advised a Toyota Tarago was travelling southbound when it failed to negotiate a bend and struck the gutter, it subsequently mounted a kerb and collided with a steel fence.
Police will allege a two-month-old baby who was allegedly unrestrained in the back seat was ejected from a side window. The speed of the impact was estimated between 50 and 60km/h.
The baby was taken to Sydney Children’s Hospital in Randwick for observation. NSW Police report that the baby was uninjured. Three other passengers, including a 19-year-old woman were also uninjured.
Police from Eastern Beaches Local Area Command have commenced inquiries revealing the vehicle was unregistered and the 48 year old driver had a suspended licence.
The woman was arrested and taken to Prince of Wales Hospital under police guard for treatment. She was treated for a wrist injury and underwent mandatory testing.
She was later conveyed to Maroubra Police Station and charged with negligent driving (no death or grievous bodily harm), use unregistered registrable Class A motor vehicle on road, drive with child under 6 months not restrained as prescribed, and drive motor vehicle while licence suspended.
The Pagewood woman was granted conditional bail to appear at Waverley Local Court on Wednesday 3 March 2021.
