Police pursuit involving teenager ends with crash in Watsons Bay
At around 11.20pm (Sunday 20 July 2025), police officers attached to Eastern Suburbs Police Area Command attempted to stop a vehicle on Hopetoun Avenue in Vaucluse.
Police will allege the vehicle did not stop as directed and a pursuit was initiated.
Police have stated the pursuit was terminated shortly after due to safety concerns.
A short time later, the vehicle was found to have crashed down an embankment on the same street on the corner of Old South Head Road & Hopetoun Avenue in Watson Bay.
The driver of the car – a 17-year-old male was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to St Vincent’s hospital as a precaution. A police officer accompanied the paramedics and patient on the way to hospital.
Three other passengers – two teenage boys and a teenage girl – were uninjured.
A police car was damaged and required towing after it struck a centre traffic divider severing an oil pan.
Police have commenced inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the crash & pursuit.
