Four rescued from drowning after life savers respond during training session at Bondi Beach
Surf life saving volunteers have rescued four people from drowning in Bondi this evening after swimmers near Backpackers Rip got into trouble.
NSW Ambulance tasked multiple ambulances to the scene which closed down Queen Elizabeth Drive at around 7.30pm.
Surf Life Savers from the Bondi IRB Racing Team were in ocean at the time of the incident conducting training as a witness screamed for help. The life savers immediately responded and managed to pull four people from the surf.
Some of the life savers were experienced trainers however many of the young volunteers performed their first rescue this evening. They were commended by their team leaders for their efforts and first aid treatment.
Two men were treated for a near-drowning with one in serious condition being partially conscious, he was transported to St Vincent’s hospital. The other is in a stable condition being transported to Prince of Wales hospital. Two others who were rescued were able to return home without further treatment.
