Qantas Aircraft lands safely after Sydney Airport put on emergency standby
Qantas Flight 144 from Auckland has landed safely on one engine after a mechanical failure over the ocean today.
Around a dozen ambulances and major incident command teams deployed to the airport, supported by police and specialist Fire & Rescue hazmat crews.
The Qantas plane landed safely in Sydney at around 3.25pm with emergency crews on standby.
Two Air Service Fire appliances assessed the plane prior to it meeting ground crews in an open area of the airport.
No passengers were injured.
Daily Mail reported that the first passengers who came off the plane said they hadn't been aware of the engine failure.
