Child pinned against tree following serious crash in Kingsford
A child has been seriously injured after being struck by a vehicle in Kingsford this afternoon.
At around 3.40pm this afternoon emergency services responded to reports that a car had mounted a footpath pinning a 12-year-old boy between the vehicle and a tree at the intersection of Gardeners Road and Bunnerong Road.
The child was released by police rescue officers 40 minutes after the crash.
The child was taken to Sydney Children’s Hospital in a serious condition by NSW Ambulance paramedics. A specialist medical team was tasked to the incident to assist local crews.
A 17-year-old male driver was uninjured. He has been taken to Prince of Wales Hospital for mandatory testing. The driver was under police guard at hospital and was taken to Maroubra Police Station where he was charged with dangerous driving occasioning grievously bodily harm – drive manner dangerous, and negligent driving (occasions grievous bodily harm).
Officers from Eastern Beaches Police Area Command secured a crime scene which will be examined by specialist police.
