Man dies after boat collision during Yacht race in Sydney

A man has died after a boating incident in Sydney Harbour this evening.

About 6:30pm today (Friday 6 December 2024), emergency services were called to New Beach Road, Darling Point, following reports of two boats had collided.

On arrival, officers attached to Eastern Suburbs Police Area Command, along with the Marine Area Command found a man, believed to be aged in his 50’s, had sustained a severe chest injury and died at the scene.

He is yet to be formally identified.

Both skippers will be subject to mandatory testing and both vessels have been seized for mechanical examination.

Investigations into the incident have commenced.

A report will be prepared for the coroner
