Two dead after four vehicle crash on Anzac Bridge in Pyrmont

ANZAC Bridge is expected to remain closed until around 8.00am after two people died in a four-vehicle crash overnight.

The incident began with a minor crash shortly before 11.50pm (Friday 2 December 2022), in the citybound lanes of the Bridge, near the Pyrmont exit, involving a Toyota Camry sedan and a Holden Captiva station wagon.

Police believe the drivers of those vehicles were standing on the roadway when they have been allegedly struck by a Holden Commodore sedan.

A Toyota Camry taxi also became involved. Both the woman driving the Camry and the man driving the Captiva died at the scene. They are yet to be formally identified.

A man driving the taxi has been taken to Sydney Eye Hospital for mandatory testing, while a man driving the Commodore has been taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital to be treated for injuries sustained in the crash, and mandatory testing.

Officers from Sydney City Police Area Command have established a crime scene with specialist investigations being conducted by the Crash Investigation Unit.

Investigators are keen to hear from anyone with dashcam vision of the incident, or the circumstances leading up to the crash, especially those drivers travelling westbound between 11.45pm and 11.55pm.

It’s expected the bridge could remain closed for up to eight hours, and motorists are advised to check www.livetraffic.com for updates and diversions.

Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers: 1800 333 000 or https://nsw.crimestoppers.com.au
